Wordpress blogs..?

19 Replies, 4395 Views

I'm looking at various available themes for a blog I'm creating. Has anyone who uses or views these things regularly got any suggestions or advice for creating a nice user-friendly ting? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The blog is to provide supplementary info for an album project, so I'm looking to create space for a few short essays, some pics and some audio links or perhaps even players. Nothing too fancy.

Tankee kindly in advance Grin

Indeed they do. I just hoped that somebody who's used these buggers might suggest some reasons as to why one set-up might be better than another etc. Grin

I would figure that depends on what type of information you have and what you want to do with the site. Thats why I thought the templates might be of use in that you could find the layout that best matches the information and style you need to present.

Ive found this successful in creating past sites, its a great beginning anyway Wink
BTW, Google sites is another option, and its free Grin
You can usually take a basic theme that suits you, apply it to your blog, then customize it with bits that you like. The level of customization varies.

I'm feeling frivolous today so using the Yank spelling of customization.
im using the Twenty Ten theme:
http://fanumusic.com/

it's really easy to change...just a few clicks and boom, it's done.

I think so, yes
I am a serious wordpress fanboy, its great for someone who doesnt know much about code of any kind.

I have made these....

http://www.mbielectrical.co.uk
http://drumtrip.co.uk
http://www.yousabai.com (the best one)

I make entire websites using them, not just blogs. I literally bum it.

http://www.elegantthemes.com for all your premium themes

They are pretty awful. I built a site using google and its pretty clunky, blogger or wordpress seem a nice option new.

Anyone use joomla?
Elegantthemes.com is where it's at. It costs $39 for a year, but you can use 40+ of their themes and customize them like crazy. Really good customer service and instructions on how to do everything. I've used free ones and I prefer Elegant far more than any free one. It's also knowing that Elegant themese will be reliable with each Wordpress update, since they keep on top of it. Some free ones can get outdated quick without updates.
I use headway and thesis. Both allow full wisiwyg editing and customisation. Gravity forms is ace too.
Elegant Themes yes!

The support guys on their forums are heroes.
