FUCK.. random listen today as I post.

CURSIVE (Omaha, Nebraska) .. first 3 lp's

"Such Blinding Stars for Starving Eyes" lp - 1997, Crank! Records

"The Storms of Early Summer: Semantics of Song" lp - 1998, Saddle Creek Records

"Domestica" lp - 2000, Saddle Creek Records

^^ I have no idea what any of the Cursive lp's sounded like after "Domestica", as "Domestica" was the last lp I really cared to listen to.  Tim Kasher still can't sing worth shit, and the theatrics & ideas that was put forth on Cursive lp's was always unique. That's what stood out to me when I first heard the music. "Domestica" was where you heard the Fugazi influence come forth more clearly, but even that was distorted enough in the theatrical delivery of the concepts of the lp's to keep Cursive unique, than just another Fugazi influenced emo/post-hardcore band kicking about at the time. 21 years later,Tim Kasher still makes music, and I most likely won't be digging it up, but the first 3 Cursive lp's are some adventurous listening indeed. It takes a bit to discern all that was going on. "Thinking man's" music, as they say.

Random listenings as I post, but dang.. worth digging into again. Smile "The Storms of Early Summer: Semantics of Song" lp, progressive indeed.

So maybe Cursive's 2003 lp "The Ugly Organ" is worth a listen to as well, if only to see how weird things got after a break up, and a 3 year wait between lp's. I've never heard the lp before. Listening as I post. There's cello, horns, orchestral parts, theatrics intact. This is as far as I'd get in the Cursive story to keep my initial interest intact with the earlier stuff. Concept records within post hardcore are hard to come by. Cursive did it from jump. I guess that's something to take note of. "Domestica" for the win for lp choices, imo, but "The Ugly Organ" is just a peak to see how far things really got. Mission accomplished.

I had a conversation with a coworker the other week about NAILS, which is cool in itself, cuz how many random people do you meet who can talk about NAILS on the fly, ya know? The coworker mentioned that he could go on a lunch, or smoke break from work, if he's having a shitty day, and literally recharge, and listen to an entire NAILS lp in that time. I don't smoke, nor do I take many breaks at work, but I get what he's saying. It made sense. We also talked about grindcore, GAG, Psychic TV, I told him about Genesis's "pandrogeny" thing, acid house, and then we talked about Touche Amore a bit. All of that was in an early morning conversation. OH.. and about how paying $30 for a Deafheaven gig isn't black metal.. LOL, cuz black metal gigs are FREE, and held in caves, mountain caverns, winter ski resorts, and in forest clearings and stuff. Black metal gigs are really about proper air conditioning is what I'm saying.

I digress.

BUT NAILS..

I'm down. always. That new lp tho.  Wink
