..We were on "tour" -- whatever that is -- and had a few gigs under our belt on the East Coast before we met up with what was THE tour to meet up with that spring: The Forward/Warhead/Tragedy "Burning Against Spirits" Tour. Titans of hardcore punk in 2006 collided across the US and for one last waltz, with us as well.

We waited patiently as Mind Eraser tore a hole through the fabric of the universe; while Kill your Idols created a brickwall of human bodies; while Forward tantalized and impressed with otherworldly precision; while Warhead left a scorch mark where the stage at CBGBs was; while Tragedy provided their indelible mark on that moment...and somewhere in the evening there was Fucked Up. That's what you're listening to. That's what you get. This is what we were capable of in the flesh in 2006, our 2006. That moment in time with its open doors and new pathways, all its ear piercing hearing loss perfection, all its potential, and it's absurd amount of nacho chips.

Fan's Notes:

-We played 57 gigs in 2006
-We played in Boston the night before with OUT COLD
-Pretty sure we drove home overnight to Toronto instead of hanging out in NY and basking in our CBs debut.
-Was this the first Storied *Monday* HC Matinee at CBGB of the era
-Two days prior, we played in PIttsfield, MA where we probably met Jaybo who drew the cover of Hidden World.
-Hidden World came out on October 9, 2006
-CBGBs closed its doors to the public on Oct 15, 2006.
-Thank you Ian Dickson for giving us the show...

Torment, what do you think of these metal bands?

Tesseract, Seether, Fantomas.
^^ Never listened to Tesseract (will listen a bit more), but I've had convos about djent in general, with people who do actually listen to similar style bands. djent is extremely nerdy, but that's the point right? Newer, or evolving subgenre terms seem to be a result of the internet, case in point with djent i suspect. I don't necessarily classify djent as a post-hc thing, but i do see the influences that have lead up to such younger, more recent diversions in um.. progressive metal. My earlier parallels & interests I can make to djent fans is that I was once obsessed with early mathrock, metalcore and/or mathcore, and the like, so I understand the geekiness of it all. Chugga chugga, djent djent djent.. lol. The recent deathcore thing could be another similar paralell, whether good or bad. I get it tho. The music, subjective. I will listen to specifics if & when. All good.

Seether - not really my thing but I get it. In contrast I prefer bands like Torche, or earlier 90's, 2000's, and now 2020 era, Shiner, Hum, etc.

Fantomas - great! Patton has always been incredibly interesting. Huge catalog of music in his discography, crazy to think about it. At this point in time, I've always been more interested in his ideas and thought processes for label output, and then of course, via his own music. Patton is like a one man Crass Records in my mind, operating in similar, free form spirit, ever evolving. Ipacec is maybe only rivalled by Alternative Tentacles for such a huge range of releases for similar, envisioned record labels. Keeps ya guessing, after all these years. That is a good thing. Smile

2020 Shiner release btw, noice.

https://shinerkc.bandcamp.com/
Shiner's first 1996 "Splay" album via Desoto Records. I bring up J. Robbins, Jawbox etc, often in this thread. Clearly I'm a fan, but the man is quite unique and important within stateside 80's hardcore punk, and post-hc, even more so an influence and producer over the decades. Robbins continually seems to be a busy man with band production for sure - new affiliated stuff pops up frequently. Shiner's first lp was via Desoto Records, also with direct Jawbox affiliations via Kim Coletta, and Bill Barbot of Jawbox. As posted above ^^ via Wailin Storms, Robbins delving into doom metal production!! More please! heh. I'm all for it!

Shiner's first lp, a must imo.
