A reinterpretation of Tony Conrad’s Four Violins.  Xyxthumbs

...Although the result isn’t all that comparable to Conrad’s original piece and seeing that I don’t ever reach the level of ecstasy he did with his 1964 recording, Four Violins (and his greater body of work) laid the foundation for the gestures that guided me during my own performance as well as the sonic qualities and motifs I aimed to reproduce.

This recording consists of two layered bowed guitar takes for a total of four separate amplifier tracks.

Hail Tony Conrad. RIP.

in the familiar words... I have that on vinyl Smile

There is at recent live recordings LP at The Sinclair by Dinosaur Jr. If you have heard it yet, apologies for my ignorance. If not, go to www bandcamp.com. it's in "best sellers" today.

I'm currently 13 of 16 tracks in listening twice today. The record is plaintive grunge, in a biker punk rock style.

I originally binged on their music in the mid 1990s. Stylistically, the same. Grunge background is same sheet, different day. But Mike knows you know that ? keep up the best punk support!
just had the 7" boxes out again, including...

^^ good stuff. Haven't heard much of the Essential Logic stuff. I still have my Sharks ///, knock off Pop Group "We Are All Prostitutes" graphic tshirt.

My Halloween work soundtrack this morning was Front 242 "Tyranny for You" lp (.. fantastic production on that lp!!, doesn't sound dated at all), Perturbator "Lustful Sacraments" lp, Rope Sect, Tiger Army, and I left my coworkers listening to The Cramps. Smile

NEW Rope Sect "Proskynesis" e.p. forthcoming December 2021.

Cramps "Human Fly" still the thickest bass fuzz ever. R.i.P Lux.. Poison Ivy , forever the guitar goddess. So good.

Been doing some good music listening as of late via work shifts continuums and/or otherwise.

Saturday, Sunday morning work soundtracks this past weekend inclusive of fave older dnb, dubsteppy / grime, ambient related podcasts too.

Loxy CX 18 Podcast (2010?? Maybe still my fave of all the CX mixes in the series), Hive "Devious Methods" lp (1998 ) , Logos & Mumdance BBC Benji B "Weightless Mix" (2014), Photek "Solaris" lp (2000), Baptists "Beacon of Faith" lp (2018 ), Give "Electric Flower Circus" lp (2014).

Baptists (Vancouver, BC). Phenomenal.

Today's, Monday morning selections - remember future garage? Ghostek Subliminal Sessions 002 podcast (2011), Noize Creator live at Norbergfestival (2006), Asylum Party "Picture One" lp (1988 ), and The Cure "Wish" lp (1992).

Noize Creator. I've been a fan for quite awhile now, breakcore days et all, Ambush Records 2001 era sounds. Some of his extreme dubsteppy / industrial grime sets are hard to find now on the internet. I always thought he was a really good producer for hardcore techno, breakcore, etc, and the details and delivery were always very apparent in his dubstep, industrial grime era. Metal influence included. Good stuff.

Asylum Party (France 1985 - 1991 as via discogs) - Soft Kill related record label, Cercle Social Records (Portland, Oregon) rereleased Asylum Party material earlier this year, and I can see why Soft Kill & crew would be ardent in their enthusiasm to rerelease Asylum Party material, which also introduced the band to myself in the process. The influence on Soft Kill is rather apparent. As was The Cure seemingly was a large influence on Asylum Party, etc.

At their recent best, Turnstile often hit these Bad Brains groove moments that I can appreciate. It is the details I notice.

Not to mention some slick, Cedric Zavala / At The Drive In style, drop splits dance moves. heh.

We need to talk about Backxwash.

Maybe it is the African, Canadian immigrant perspective. Maybe it is the transgender, African Canadian voice butchering down walls that need to be broken at will as we speak. Religious, cultural norms & absurdities included. All within a sober effort to create that new space and reality where one can simply flourish and LIVE. Breathe. PMA for 2021 onwards... why not? It all just seems more real here. An actual vital experience that just so happens to blow everything out of the water in the process.

It is MORE than hiphop, it is MORE than everything. And seemingly better than any attempt at similar music aesthetics. No gimmicks, no faux gangster immaturity, no hype beast bullshit, none of the trappings of current, twitter drawn, voids of creativity you see in such spaces. Backxwash is well produced & is a DOPE producer herself, this stuff is dark as fuck, it delivers. It is soul. It is metal. It is subversive. It is fascinating. It makes me angry when I listen to it, maybe that's the point? REAL STORIES not being told elsewhere within extreme musics.

Everything just seems to pale in comparison. Backxwash. Wow.
